What You Can Expect

Your Preoperative EvaluationFirst:  After being weighed and received, you’ll meet with one of our bariatric surgeons. Together, the two of you will discuss your medical history, your surgical options, and any questions you have about the surgery.

Second:  Our licensed dietician will discuss and document your dietary and exercise history. This is often required by your insurance company. She’ll also introduce you to techniques that you can put into practice right away in preparation for your surgery.

Third:  A meeting with our practice manager comes next. She’s extremely knowledgeable about the insurance process. She’ll discuss your payment options and the nuances of being approved for surgery.

Fourth:  Our Bariatric Life Coach and patient relations manager is your last stop. You’ll learn all about the lifestyle changes you’ll be making following your surgery. You’ll also be given information about our support system, including pre-op and post-op programs to promote lifelong success in your weight management.

“During my consultation, Dr. Brolin was very thorough in explaining the risks, complications, and aftercare. The strongest impression I have of Dr. Brolin (besides his surgical abilities) is that he truly and sincerely cares about each patient as an individual and feels great happiness in helping to save their lives.”

Your Preoperative Evaluation

Preoperative testing and evaluation is essential for obtaining the best surgical weight loss results. We’ll conduct and evaluate a series of routine medical tests prior to your surgery. Additionally, this is required by most insurance providers before they’ll approve your surgery.

Your personal doctor or another medical specialist may be asked to provide “medical clearance” prior to your surgery. This request is generally made in patients with comorbidites (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.) or when the preoperative blood tests, EKG or check x-ray show and unexpected result.

After the results of your tests have been reviewed, you’ll be contacted with a date for your surgery. We’ll also provide you with additional guidelines to help you prepare for surgery.

What’s Next?

Now that you understand what will take place during your initial consultation and evaluation, the next step is to request an appointment. We’ll likely be able to see you within the next week or two. Afterward, you’ll be well on your way to a thinner you!
